Beautiful Day is a city-wide volunteer initiative that brings together local government, schools, nonprofits, and community members for a weekend of coordinated service projects across San Jose.
As lead designer, I develop each year’s visual identity and theme, producing all promotional, digital, and print materials for both pre-event communications and the weekend itself. This includes volunteer shirts for 1,500+ participants, signage, print collateral, and online assets tailored to a variety of audiences and project sites. One of last year's initiatives included a mural project I designed and painted in collaboration with a local charter school, reflecting the kind of hands-on, community-centered work Beautiful Day supports.
ANIMATED LOGO -> I didn’t design the original Beautiful Day logo, but I created this animation to strengthen its presence and bring a sense of energy and authority to the brand system.
BRAND DEVELOPMENT -> Where the logo and general brand identity was designed before I joined the team, I helped to develop and elevate what was previously established. This included icon sets to represent the type of work included in the Beautiful Day Projects. These were used so that participants could easily tell what kind of labor each would involve as they signed up.
2023 DIPPER DESIGN -> In 2023, we were revitalizing Beautiful Day after a transition of their core leadership. In an aim to add some levity and fun, we brought a bit more personality to the yearly theme, creating Dipper the Paint Can. This was at the precipice of the rubber hose character craze.

PRINT MATERIALS SAMPLE -> Each year of Beautiful Day includes general promotional materials, both digital and print. In addition to standardized brand-specific content, we also produced yearly themed materials. The theme would be developed with Beautiful Day's core leadership and the Communications Team. After we finalize, I created whatever assets we decided to roll out for that year's materials.
